Behavioral Health RN

(Full-time) Covering Metro Denver

$1000 Sign On BONUS

Purpose:

The Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (RN) is a highly qualified health care provider who, through education and experience, possesses a distinct body of knowledge and skills and applies the art and science of his/her profession.

Scope & Objective:

       Applies specialized psychiatric nursing knowledge in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with behavioral health concerns. Assists the Lead Behavioral Health RN in building and sustaining the behavioral health program for patients receiving care in their homes or in assisted living facilities. Functions under the direction of the Nursing Supervisor and the Director of Patient Clinical Services (DPCS). Initiates case findings, health teachings health counseling and provision of care that supports life or restores well-being.

Qualifications:

  1. Graduate of an approved school of nursing whose program is accredited by the National League for Nursing.
  2. Currently licensed in good standing in State(s) of nursing practice.
  3. Minimum of 2 years of experience in Psychiatric Inpatient, Outpatient or Home Care treatment setting
  4. Public Health Nurse preferred
  5. Documentation of good physical and emotional health
  6. Must meet educational/experience requirements outlined in the laws of licensure states
  7. Possesses adequate and effective interpersonal skills
  8. Effective with both written and verbal communication

Reports to: Nursing Supervisor

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping all day. The employee must frequently lift or move items weighing 50 pounds.

Travel:

       This position requires daily travel within the front Range of Colorado.

Tasks/Duties & Job Responsibilities:

  1. Complies with accepted ethical conduct and Professional Standards of Nursing Practice as set forth by the American Nurses Association
  2. Assesses client's condition and needs, through the collection of health data, the recognition, interpretation and reporting of symptoms and psychological responses and re-evaluates the client nursing needs as required
  3. Develops and implements nursing plan of care with consideration for the dignity and desires of the client care, organizes and participates in direct client care, performs treatment and administers medications
  4. Formulates, notifies, and carries out client care plan which prescribes nursing actions toward achievable goals according to client needs
  5. Maintains a safe, therapeutic environment for the client
  6. Initiates and participates in the development of the Plan of Treatment, obtains physician's orders, clarifies those orders and obtains necessary revisions as needed, informs the physician of changes in the clients condition and provides written summary reports to the physician
  7. Participates in health counseling and teaching with the client and of family members
  8. Maintains detailed records of nursing actions, client progress, and response to therapy and teaching so that the Plan of Care can be documented and evaluated.
  9. Records clinical/progress notes in the client's clinical record. Supervises care given by ancillary personnel. Initiates preventative and rehabilitative nursing procedures.
  10. Coordinates discharge planning and prepares discharge summaries and instructions.
  11. Initiates cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and institutes other emergency prodecures when necessary
  12. Communicates information effectively to appropriate personnel to facilitate continuity of care
  13. Accepts accountability for won practice
  14. Maintains competency by participating in in-service and continuing educational programs
  15. Participates in Monthly, Quarterly, Annual trainings as well as Zone meetings
  16. Coordinates Nursing, Home Health Aide, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy and other services delivered to clients of the agency
  17. Complies with agency policies, protocols, and standard procedures
  18. Provides consultation to Nursing Supervisor, DPCS, and HR for proper placement of qualified personnel
  19. Other duties / responsibilities that support the agency's core values of Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence
  20. Complies with agency Policies and Procedures as well as Employee Handbook detailing Human Resources policies.
  21. Completes emergency preparedness training as identified as appropriate for this employee level.
  22. Participates in exercises and drills for emergency preparedness, as required.
  23. Other duties and tasks as assigned by the Optimal Home Care Emergency Command Center communication tree in the event of a local, regional or national emergency and/or disaster.
